In case you live in some weird cave with no internet connection, you should know that NX35 has released preliminary schedules for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. You’re running out of reasons not to buy a wristband now. For those of us who are set to go, we can now wait some more in hopes that times will be set so we can tediously begin planning out our weekend. But, if you’ve gone to any sort of music festival, you should know that no matter how well you plan out the details, you can never fully account for traffic, full venues, set delays, and the effects alcohol may have on “a friend of yours.” Because that friend may end up misplacing the well-laid plans, or you, er, that friend, may just flippantly dismiss the schedule to get lost in the fun of the moment. One thing you can absolutely count on is the free-for-all outdoor show on Saturday night from 6PM to 9:30PM. At least plan for that, kids.
Stardeath and White Dwarfs
In case you actually do live in some weird cave, you should know that the free show on Saturday night will feature local heroes, Midlake, and our neighbors from the north, The Flaming Lips. However, a name that seems to get lost in the shuffle (at least in the shuffles I run in) is Stardeath and White Dwarfs. I suppose it also gets lost in the shuffle when you mention the Lips’ latest album, The Flaming Lips and Stardeath and White Dwarfs with Henry Rollins and Peaches Doing The Dark Side of the Moon. It’s just easier to say “Oh yeah! That Pink Floyd album remake!” Coming from someone with a long last name, it’s easy to understand why people like to shorten things. Less room for mistake.
But don’t make the mistake of writing Stardeath and White Dwarfs off as the band that Wayne Coyne‘s nephew is in. Dennis Coyne and his crew hold their own as they bring their own psychedelic rock to the Oklahoma scene. As their name implies, their sound travels through space and should sound grand in the open skies when they come in March. Those who come early for The Flaming Lips will definitely get a thorough warm-up with Stardeath and White Dwarfs. Like I said, your plans may go out the window but do not miss this show. It’s free for crying out loud!
