Countdown to NX35 2010: 26 days ’til you’re begging to stay.
I was snowed in on Saturday so I enjoyed some shells n’ cheese with daytime television. My friend and her digital rabbit ears only have three channels so the afternoon included a lot of judges, angry, illogical people, and commercials for online colleges. The only access I had to the internet was on my iPhone that was on the verge of dying. It was like urban camping. And I enjoyed it. Hope you all were able to take a break from the ordinary to enjoy our record-setting snowstorm in the DFW. I heard there was a snowball fight at the square, and I love that this city has a hub for shenanigans to take place on a community-wide scale. It’ll sure be busy in March where there may not be snow, but there will be fun and you’ll wish the weekend will never end. You best be there.
Smile Smile
This is a story of a boy and a girl, of love and loss, and how it all resulted in the Dallas-based folk pop duo known as Smile Smile and their latest album, “Truth on Tape.” Once in a committed relationship, their breakup resulted in songwriting and eventually, a reunion. For music’s sake. Their lyrics are as honest and simple as their sound which causes your head to bob ironically as they sing of heartache. Speaking of irony, they also held their CD release party the day before Valentine’s Day as if to give other broken hearts a soundtrack to that single-unfriendly holiday. They are now on a west coast tour but let’s make sure to applaud their dedication to the art in March.
