Countdown to NX35 2010: 25 days ’til you hear stuff that ain’t recorded and released. Yet.
A few NX35ers have had the pleasure of releasing new material recently. Within the past few weeks, The Fieros, Smile Smile, and Midlake have launched new albums which have all received quite a few great reviews. But there are some NX35ers that are still slaving away at studios, eager to share their music with the masses. Not everyone has the chance to catch a lot of these acts just five miles away, and I know I take that for granted. In March, you can take advantage of hearing great music that hasn’t hit any record stores yet like Spooky Folk, Seryn, and today’s featured artist:
OK Sweetheart
I don’t know which is more impressive: The many places Erin Austin has lived within the past few years or the fact that as much attention her music gets, she actually has no albums on any record store’s shelf. Yet. Winner of a 2008 Lennon Songwriting award for pop and one of the top five bands in last year’s The Sound and The Jury contest for Austin City Limits, Austin manages to make a name for herself (or, rather, her new moniker, OK Sweetheart) without an album which is slated to be released sometime this year. Having a voice like hers doesn’t hurt. And neither does having a husband at the keys, traveling alongside her. You can catch her next week as DayBowBow celebrates their one-year anniversary (hey, hey, shameless plug!) or in March at the KXT-presented NX35 show. Your choice. But do both.
Notable tunes to preview online: “You Let Me Down,” “Home” / Myspace / Facebook
