Countdown to NX35 2010: 19 days ’til over 200 bands come to town.

By my count, 203 bands are on the NX35 lineup. Divide that by the four nights of this music conferette and we’ve got approximately fifty bands to choose from each night. If you find yourself bored on either of those nights, you either do not have a NX35 wristband or you’re doing something wrong. How can you not find something to your liking out of this long list? Instrumental, electronic, acoustic, electro-acoustic, folk, pop, rock, hip-hop, country, and everything in between. Need to dance? Hit up Andy’s on Sunday night for Yeahdef and DJ MomJeans. Want to experience something ridiculous? Party with Giggle Party at The Boiler Room instead. Perhaps you’d like some international acts? Natalia Mallo, The Kissaway Trail, and Electric Electric will be far from their homes to play in little ol’ Denton, Texas. Seriously, if you find yourself bored on any of those nights, I personally invite you to hit me up on Twitter when you’re at the festival and I will guide you to a show that will suit your picky tastes. You really should do your homework though so on that note, we continue the countdown!

Whiskey Folk Ramblers

You need some gypsy-flavored music in your life. No, really. Listen to Whiskey Folk Ramblers’ “Midnight Drifters” and tell me that concoction of accordion, violin, and upright bass doesn’t at least get your toe tapping. And doesn’t Tyler Rougeux’s growl make you want to swing a pint in agreement? This ragtag group from Fort Worth won the Dallas Observer Music Award in 2008 for Best New Act and for good reason. Whether they are leaning toward their Eastern European folk influences or toward traditional country, you’ll find yourself swaying or dancing to their genre-blending style. Catch a bite to eat at Sweetwater on Friday night of the festival and let Whiskey Folk Ramblers help you work off those calories.
