Countdown to NX35 2010: 13 days ’til you may not have a wristband, stupid.
4-day Wristbands: In shorter supply––The Conferette, like Denton, is small-sized. Don’t say we didn’t warn you . . . thnx
The wristbands have been on sale since mid-January which has given everyone ample time to weigh their options, figure out their finances, wait for the full schedule, and decide if they want to come to NX35. Only nine days after wristband sales started, the Saturday single night wristbands sold out which is a good indication of the gaining popularity of this music conferette. And with yesterday’s tweet, it seems like everyone has had proper warning that you should buy a wristband now or face palm later. In case you need clarification, this is not SXSW. You cannot walk up to a venue, throw down money and expect to see a showcase. Without a wristband, you will just be one sad music lover in which case I recommend drowning your sorrows in some Beth Marie’s ice cream. So, if you are planning on going or watching your figure, buy a wristband now!
Fergus and Geronimo
One listen of Fergus and Geronimo and you’ll think you’ve discovered some old Motown band that happened to slip through the cracks of music history. Come to Hailey’s on the Friday night of NX35 and you’ll realize they are a couple of young Dentonites that just happen to appreciate Four Tops. Core members Andrew Savage and Jason Kelly belong to other bands with more of a punk rock edge (Teenage Cool Kids and Wax Museums) but flex their stylistic muscles with this project. And a “project” is exactly what Fergus and Geronimo started out as really, as they created some tunes, posted them on Myspace, and were welcomed with unexpected praise and record label offers. Now the music history timeline awaits their anticipated full-length album expected to drop this year. For now, you’ll have to catch them live.
Notable tunes to preview online: “Tell It (In My Ear)”, “Harder Than It’s Ever Been” / Myspace
